I grew up in an ingredients household. My mom was a SAHM and had a huge garden and canned vegetables. She was a great homestyle cook; nothing fancy, but always delicious. Although we were not farmers, growing up farm to table truly was a way of life. It was an exciting day when the deep freezer was filled with meat after a butchering of a cow or pig that an uncle or friend of my parents had raised and my parents bought part of it. When I was a little girl growing up in the rural Midwest and came home from elementary school with tales of school friends dining out at fancy restaurants like Red Lobster and The Olive Garden and beg to eat there too, my mom would always shoot me down. She would tell me how Red Lobster made her sick, and if I wanted seafood she would make it for me. I could have never imagined then that decades later I wouldn’t eat at chain restaurants, but I would have favorite restaurants from around the world.

Why My Best Bites?

For nearly three decades I have made a career of working in the bar and restaurant industry from dive bars to James Beard nominated restaurants as a bartender, manager, and server. After leaving St Louis and a nearly 2 decade relationship at one of St Louis’ most successful restaurants, a St Louis restaurant institution, I am currently working at a very respected restaurant in the Caribbean on the island of St Thomas. I love food from Michelin Stars and James Beard winners to street food and food trucks parked at gas stations..
